Lake Afternoon

Location: Charleston Lake, Ontario

June 13, 2012

these lake waters house
fish and seaweed and slugs in
comfy shells;
they carry canoes of those who
seek a closer scope;
they welcome sunbathers, castle makers, walkers on water;
and in June these waters, still and chilly, hold memories of
camping days past,
laughter of small children,
and saying good-bye to you,
some years ago
as we floated on
with our lives.

La Oreja de Van Gogh

Locations: San Miguel de Allende & Guanajuato, Mexico

December 29,2003

San Miguel de Allende is a museum of colors, weathered stones,hanging pinatas, basilicas, and art. Tonight Van Gogh’s ear heard two sisters sharing stories and secrets on a swirly table, over wine and songs of strummed guitars.

Parque Lleras

Location: Medellin, Colombia

October 10, 2003

Rain stains
steps in and around
Parque Lleras.
Perhaps it is this
or the grey of the sky
that dampens the colors
of small business,
competing for attention with
music lively.
Today a lone vendor
props up his canvases,
Botero replicated carefully
in hue and design,
selling greatness for a smaller peso,
himself of his own greatness.

Among trees dripping the sky,
cigarette and chicle vendors,
in this hub of those “with” and
those “without”,

love was once born.

Carthage Toast

Location: Carthage, Tunisia

May, 22, 2007

Here’s to the blue of the sea before me,
the sky it rests against,
the eight Arabic arches gracefully laden with
intricate tiles,
the fury of color that blooms on the hedge,
the social commotion of song birds,
the rustle of palms and pines and eucalyptus,
the softness of evening,
the perfection of this moment.
